What topics are covered in the NZ citizenship test?

The government has announced six topic areas that the new citizenship test will draw from. Here's what each one covers, in plain English.

Bill of Rights Act — the rights and freedoms protected under the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990, including freedom of expression, freedom from discrimination, and rights around arrest and detention.

Human rights — the Human Rights Act 1993, what counts as unlawful discrimination in New Zealand, and how human rights are protected and enforced.

Criminal offences — common criminal offences under New Zealand law, and the general responsibilities that come with living under it.

Travelling on a New Zealand passport — how New Zealand passports work, who can get one, dual citizenship, and practical things to know before travelling overseas as a citizen.
